Acupuncture is an ancient system of healing. The earliest acupuncture books were written 4,500 years ago. Acupuncture began with the discovery that the stimulation of specific areas of the skin affected the functioning of certain organs of the body. It evolved into a system of healing as the connection between the skin and organs became better understood leading to more sensitive methods of stimulation.
In simple terms, when an acupuncture needle is applied, the body releases certain chemicals, which in turn have certain effects on different parts of the body. The Chinese explain acupuncture through their philosophies of Yin, Yang and the Five Elements. They have identified 14 channels or ‘meridians’ that run through the body. The meridians conduct the flow of ‘vital energy’ or ‘qi’ (chi). This flow is disrupted when disease is present. By inserting needles into selected points in the meridians, this flow can be corrected, returning the body to its healthy condition. As opposed to the western approach in medicine ( trying to cure a particular disease) the oriental emphasis centers on making the whole body healthy.
In Acupuncture, extremely fine flexible needles made of stainless steel and silver alloy are inserted into specific areas of the body, producing a beneficial effect in other related parts. When practiced by an experienced acupuncturist, the patient can be confident that the treatment received will be appropriate to the condition and perfectly harmless.
Acupuncture is an inexpensive, safe, effective treatment for many chronic disorders, and can be used preventively as well.
Cosmetic Acupuncture
Cosmetic Acupuncture is a specific facial acupuncture treatment for a healthy and youthful appearance. Facial Acupuncture has been known to be used throughout Hollywood for the rich and famous, and even on supermodels prior to photo shoots, because it gives such a healthy glow to the face. Several needles are used for the treatment, usually around four to six in the body to tonify the organs (traditional Acupuncture) and around twenty to sixty needles for the face.
